Global Medical Training is an International Humanitarian Organization that provides free medical-dental services to medically deprived communities in Central American countries and continues to expand throughout the world including to South America as well as Asia. A prime corollary is offering healthcare students, professionals, and interested others a truly international experience that will expand their understanding of medicine-dentistry-pharmacy and life outside of North America.

Global Medical Training was founded in 2003 and began trips in 2004 under the guidance of Dr. Wil Johnson, MD, a North American Physician. Dr. Wil transitioned from 28 years of a rural private practice in the USA after deciding to lifetime volunteer his time and medical / teaching skills for the benefit of others .  He had deep humanitarian ideals that needed fertile soil to flourish. He also desired to help the impoverished of Central America and provide a heart and mind changing experience for trip participants from other cultures. Dr. Wil has been doing this type of humanitarian work in C.A. since 2001. Initially he worked through other organizations. Eventually he decided to start serving with his own particular vision of objectives, methods, and outcomes.  The organization is based in California and has expanded to serve in Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic as well as Peru and India.

The University of California, Merced Chapter of Global Medical Training was

founded in 2014 by two undergraduate students- Indy Polley and Shahrukh

Syed- both pursing an education in the Pre-Medical Studies. UCM is the

newest of the University of California campuses officially opening its doors

in 2005. The GMT chapter in Merced focuses on giving back in the Merced Community through various projects and volunteer opportunites. Students attend workshops to better their skills and gain essential experience before going on trips. The chapter's main focus is to provide students with a unique opportunity to gain insight and knowledge about health related professions while creating a close knit community striving for the betterment of humanity.
